Definitely one of the best barbecue restaurants I have ever eaten at. Just past Biloxi off of interstate 10 you will find The Shed, a roadside barbecue shack that sits inside an RV park.

The Shed offers the most tender barbecue you will ever eat and a sauce that is flat out awesome. I went the baby back ribs and brisket plate with the Mac Salad and Baked Beans on the side. The ribs were amazing. The meat quality was excellent and the ribs were smoked so well that the bones literally were turned into mush. When you bit into the ribs, you couldn’t help but to eat bone with it. The ribs were also served wet with a unique sauce that is sweet and smoky. Ummmmm!

The brisket, unlike the ribs was just ok. Nothing that special about them and they were a little dry. You could say the same about the sides as well. Not saying it was bad by far, the beans just tasted like your everyday pork-n-beans and the Mac Salad, though something you don’t find everyday at a barbecue restaurant, tasted like any ordinary Mac Salad.
So, did The Shed live up to the hype that you see on television and hear from word of mouth? I think it did if you are there for the ribs. Their cooking method is the best I have every witnessed and their passion for barbecuing is known with every bite.

By the way, I also snuck a couple bites of the pulled pork from my friend, and it was delicious as well. Next time, I’m going with the ribs and pulled pork.

Food Rating:

Service
The service was quick for how busy this place was (I hear it is always packed) and the everything flowed smoothly. There really aren’t any waitresses, because everything is self served and your food is brought out in a Styrofoam box.

Service Rating:

Atmosphere
This is the fun part about The Shed. The Shed was listed as “a shed” on the building permit by the owner when it was originally built and that’s just what it is, a shed! Its small, but has a great atmosphere with all kinds of junk hung on the walls and ceiling that has been placed there by the dumpster diving owner. Outside, you will find a large stage surrounded by more junk and plenty of picnic tables (Some of the tables are school desk by the way).

The Shed has a great barbecue atmosphere that is fun for everyone.

Atmosphere Rating:

Overall:

The Shed
7501 Highway 57
Ocean Springs, MS
(228) 875-9590
www.theshedbbq.com

The Joint | New Orleans, LA

http://www.eatrouge.com/2/post/2009/05/the-joint-new-orleans-la.html

http://www.eatrouge.com/2/post/2009/05/the-joint-new-orleans-la.html#comments

Uncategorized

While I was in New orleans today, I decided to stop by one of Louisiana's most famous barbecue restaurants, The Joint. The Joint is a small hole-in-the-wall barbecue restaurant serving up some of the best ribs you will ever eat.

The spare ribs at The Joint are always great quality, offering very little fat and plenty of tender smoked meat. The rib rub here is a one of a kind secret recipe and is probably the best rub I have ever had on ribs. Combine that with the Joint barbecue sauce and you've got yourself some of the best tasting ribs in the state.

I decided on the spare rib plate that came with four ribs and two sides. On the side, I ordered the Mac and Cheese and the baked beans. The Mac and Cheese (another famous dish at The Joint) was absolutly teriffic. It was very creamy and cheesy and wanted more after devouring the dish. The baked beans were pretty descent as well. There was nothing that special about them, but the recipe offered a refreshingly unique flavor unlike other barbecue restaurants that serve there beans straight out of a can.

Now on to the ribs! There were salty, juicy, smoky, sweet and hot. The meat was very tender and The Joint sauce topped off this swine to make it a memorable rib eating experience!

Food Rating:

Service
The servers here are very laid back and set off this vibe like you are at a buddy's house for a backyard barbecue. It is a crappy hole in the wall that is too small and only seats about 10 people. When you step out in the backyard, if feels as if you are stepping into redneck land. There is junk scattered everywhere on the ground and the patio furniture seems to be at least 60 years old. I guess the real question here is how this place passes Health Inspections?

To tell you the truth, I kind of like the atmosphere here. It definitely has a lot of character!

Atmosphere Rating:

Overall:

The Joint
801 Poland Ave
New Orleans, LA 70117
(504) 949-3232
www.alwayssmokin.com
