The black pepper spice is a popular seasoning used in many modern dishes. The ground spice is produced from unripe fruit of the piper nigrum plant which is originally from India where it has been used in the cuisine since 2000 BC. There are a few other pepper types that can be made from the fruit including white, pink and green varieties. In addition to food seasoning black pepper has also been used traditionally to treat illness such as diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, toothaches and various other ailments.

If someone were to ask you the question, "What is Labor Day?" could you really answer it? I doubt many of us really know anything about the holiday other than the fact that it is the first Monday in September and is the official end of summer. It used to signal the beginning of the new school year, but with more schools returning to classes in middle or late August that is no longer the case, though the beaches and other summer activities continue throughout Labor Day weekend.

When dealing with wine, people tend to create ideas to make wines really a class of its own. As such, these ideas give the wine its classy image due to the many stories that surround it. In the 15th century, Chinese seamen drank green loose tea to prevent scurvy. Every year scientists are finding more and more health benefits in green tea. 15 to 20% of dried green tea is made up of catechins. Catechins have very potent anti microbial actions and have been proven to lower cholesterol and inhibit the increase of blood pressure. In the dental field, green loose leaf tea has been shown to suppress the process by which cariogenic bacteria create glucan, thus suppressing the formation of plaque on teeth and preventing cavities.

Until recently, the U.S. was viewed internationally as a backward, unsophisticated country when it came to our taste in beer. By far, our bestselling beers have long been from the major corporate breweries whose offerings don't exactly command respect from beer enthusiasts. But, over the last couple of decades, the rise of the microbrewery industry has injected new life into the American beer scene, and we're finally starting to get the respect we deserve.

To simply answer this question, ghost peppers are the hottest peppers on Earth. This is no joke, the Guinness Book of World Records named it as such, with 1, 0421, 427 Scoville units (the measurement scale of the hotness of chili peppers) and over 500 times hotter than the Tabasco chili. If your taste buds have been stung by a Tabasco hot sauce, or a bite of a local fresh chili pepper, heighten that experience by five hundred times and you'll probably have an idea how hot ghost peppers are.
